The Making of The Lion King

How do you take one of the world's most successful musicals, currently playing to packed houses in Broadway and the West End, and recreate it in Singapore?

Our cameras were on hand from the unloading of the 1st container, through the hundreds of hours of rehearsals and preparations, to the glitz and glamour of the red carpet Gala opening.

This Saturday, 26 march, 6.30pm on Channel 5, you get to take a look Behind Pride Rock, and see how The Lion King came to Singapore.

O What a Night!

We made it! March 10 2011. The date redmarked in everyone’s calendar, the one point that we’ve been working towards. After years of planning, The Lion King was officially open in Singapore! For the Cast and Crew who had gathered here from 12 different countries, it was the end of an intense preparation process which started with the unloading of 29 container-loads of sets, props and costumes, through to 500 hours of intensive rehearsals. The Pride was finally home.

And in traditional Broadway style, Gala Night was a red carpet, black tie, invitation only event, to celebrate the arrival of the biggest theatrical blockbuster to open in Singapore.

Celebrating with the cast and crew was an exclusive guest list of 1600 of The Lion King’s best fans, including celebrities and theatre luminaries. Following are some of the scenes from the Gala event.

Recognise anyone?
